Camp Life

The Campers

The Colorado River Ranch for boys, and The Hill Top Ranch for girls, accepts campers between the ages of 7 and 17. Anderson Camps welcomes campers from across the United States, Europe, Asia, South and Central America. This cultural diversity combined with our rustic location offers every camper the opportunity to learn other regions and cultures, enhancing awareness of the world.

The Cabins

Campers sleep in rustic, western style cabins with bunk beds, and are assigned to cabins according to their age and grade. The Girls cabins have between 6 and 12 campers and 1 or 2 counselors, and the boys have up to 7 campers and 1 or 2 counselors assigned to each cabin. The boys use a centrally located wash house, while girls' restroom facilities are located within the cabin. Counselors sleep in the cabins, and are always available.

Health And Safety

Every effort is made to keep campers free from illness and accident. In the event of injury or illness, a trained nurse is on duty in our camp infirmary, 24 hours a day, and there is a fully staffed hospital in Glenwood Springs, thirty minutes from the camp. Every counselor holds Red Cross certifications for lifeguarding and first-aid, and on outcamp trips, they are responsible for caring for any camper needs. Before each outcamp trip, the nurse discusses individual camper needs with their counselor, and prepares the medical kit for the trip.

Camp Store

The camp operates a store where campers can buy camp accessories such as t-shirts and sweatshirts, basic camping equipment, personal articles such as sunscreen and bug spray, fishing equipment, and limited snacks. The store is open every afternoon, and before camping trip.

Parent Updates

We strive to keep parents well informed of their child's camp experience. Each camper's counselor writes personal reports on the activities and events of camp. These reports detail the activities and trips in which your child has participated, include comments on the camper's adjustment to camp life, and provide insight into camp experiences and camper growth. Daily updates on our website include pictures of activities, trips, and events, and allow parents to share in their camper's experience. Pictures remain on-line until the start of the next summer, allowing campers to revisit their summer memories.

Mail

Campers love getting mail from home, even if it's just to say "Hi". We also welcome emails, which should be addressed to campers@andersoncamps.com with the camper's name as the subject. Care packages are always a welcome appearance. All mail and emails will be delivered to your son or daughter after lunch on the day received, or immediately following a trip.

Visitation

Parents are welcome to visit camp the day before the end of the session at our barbecue and Closing Program. We do not recommend parents visit their children during the session. Calls to and from campers are allowed only in an emergency or on your child's birthday. Because of the number of people at the camp, we must request no other personal calls to campers. Please feel free, however, to call our administrative staff if you have any questions.
