Horse Emphasis

Anderson Camps offers a horse emphasis program for campers, which is run by the wrangling staff. Those campers enrolled in the program will spend time working with the wranglers and horses; not only riding but acquiring horse care skills and horse safety knowledge that will last a lifetime.

Campers will gain the necessary skills to become safe, responsible riders. Campers will learn general and specific horse care, and come to know individual horses. Other experiences include corralling and catching horses, bareback riding, attending rodeo events, saddling and tacking for rides, and equipment care and maintenance. Campers enrolled in the program will also branch out from the basic trail rides offered to regular campers. Wranglers and riding staff will provide personal riding instruction, teach more advanced games, and introduce faster gaits, arena, and rodeo events.

Daily horseback rides, all-day rides, and the extended horseback riding trip will still be available to all campers. However, horse emphasis campers will be guaranteed spots on those rides and will spend other activities during a typical day at camp working with or caring for the horses.
