Anderson High Adventures is an extension of the Anderson Camps experience aimed at exploring and developing skills and abilities in the outdoors. Designed for campers seeking an exciting and personally challenging experience above and beyond standard Summer Camp, AHA provides an introduction to the recreation options of the outdoor world. Limited enrollment ensures personal instruction from extensively trained staff, and an unparalleled personal growth opportunity for campers.
The AHA program utilizes both Camp facilities and the National Forests and Public Lands of Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah, and puts campers in control of their experiences, with each session tailored to the abilities and desires of the group. Campers gain individual responsibilities through the session, learn and use communication, teamwork, and leadership skills. AHA introduces the basic skills for many Activities, including Rock Climbing, Mountain Biking, Kayaking, and Backpacking. Campers often learn other, more specialized skills including outdoor cooking, wilderness survival, low-impact camping, trip organization and menu planning, conservation, local history and geology, outdoor ethics, leadership and communication skills, and many more.
For campers 13 and older, AHA offers a great new experience. Co-ed sessions last for several weeks, and include activities and trips not normally available through Anderson Camps. Campers have their own responsibilities, both personal and group. Experienced AHA Staff provide safety and personal instruction, while encouraging campers to make their own decisions.
Anderson High Adventure campers spend the majority their session off camp property, out on trips, utilizing and refining skills. AHA uses the Camp as a staging base, where campers come to re-supply, train, relax, shower, and get their mail, before heading out again. Trips range from single days or overnights, to a full week for a Rafting and Kayaking trip.
AHA often introduces the more specialized skills while in Camp, for safety and practicality. The Camp's Climbing Wall offers an excellent introduction to Rock Climbing skills, equipment, and safety techniques, before AHA campers head out for a climbing trip. Kayaking, likewise, begins on the controlled waters of the Pool and Pond, before progressing out onto the rivers. While on Camp, AHA campers often join in the activities and events of main camp, including daily activities, Counselor Dress Up, Casino Night, and the Dance.
