Camp Life

Situated high in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Anderson Western Colorado Camps, Ltd. offers activities that take full advantage of our western environment. Our unique location on the Colorado River allows us to provide daily rafting trips. The White River National Forest provides a majestic setting for hiking, climbing, horseback riding, and so much more.

Campers are encouraged to choose those activities that interest them from daily offerings. Nearly all activities are noncompetitive, encouraging both the novice and experienced camper to increase their confidence and esteem levels. The adventures offered by conquering our team challenge course and climbing wall often interest campers. We also encourage campers to try activites new to them, like rappelling and trap shooting.

Casino Night!

Our daily camp schedual starts with a healthy, filling breakfast at 8:15, with the day's announcements and activitiy sign-ups following the meal. Campers return to their cabins to clean up and prepare for their morning activities, which start at 9:45. Lunch at 12:30 follows the activities, and more sign-ups follow lunch. Between lunch and 2:30, when afternoon activites start, campers have a rest period; a chance to put their feet up, read, write home, or play games with their cabins. Afternoon activites run till 4:30 when it's snack time, followed by 5 O'clock's, semi-organized sports and games. A quick wash-up, and it's time for dinner at 6:30.
Evenings in camp are equally activity-oriented with cabin skits, talent shows, carnivals, casino games, cookouts, and campfire songfests providing entertainment for all! Activities are supervised by trained, qualified instructors.

Colorado River Ranch accepts 64 boys and Hill Top Ranch accepts 50 girls, all between the ages of 7 and 17. Both boys and girls are assigned to cabins according to their age and grade. Girls' cabins have between 6 and 12 campers and 1 or 2 counselors, and boys have up to 7 campers and 1 or 2 counselors assigned to each cabin. The boys use a centrally located wash house, while girls' restroom facilities are located within the cabin.

Cabin
Campers sleep in rustic, Western style cabins with bunk beds. Counselors sleep in the cabins, and are always available. The 8 boy's cabins are on the hill above camp, and the 7 girl's cabins line the Sweetwater Creek in its valley. Support buildings, the Office, Infirmary, Rec Hall, and Lodge, are on the middle level, between the two groups of cabins.
Bunks

Parents are kept well informed of their child's experience and progress through the session. Pictures of camp activities and events are posted daily on the website. Timely updates from each child's counselor provide parents with a list of activities their child has participated in and comments about his or her overall experiences.
