Anderson High Adventures Overview

Previously known as the Wilderness Pioneer Camp, Anderson High Adventures is a co-ed branch of Anderson Camps focused on outdoor adventure in Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah.

There are two 3-week sessions, each geared towards building outdoor and leadership skills.

The aim of the High Adventure program is to introduce the campers to outdoor rock climbing, rafting, kayaking, and backpacking while also working to develop and build skills with clinic style instruction before each trip. Individual responsibility is given to campers during the activities that are designed to build teamwork, leadership, and communication skills, while enjoying the outdoors at a level challenging to each campers abilities.

In addition, each of the sessions has specific time structured for getting to know each other better and to build friendships and respect through sharing experiences and understanding of each camper's individuality.

During the three weeks, the majority of the time is spent in parks primarily in Colorado. However, the program does leverage the facilities at Anderson Camps for practice and learning. The camp, which is located in Gypsum, is approximately 30 miles from Glenwood Springs on the Western side of the state between Vail and Aspen. While at Anderson, campers will enjoy using the 'artificial' climbing wall, rolling kayaks in the pool and pond, rafting and kayaking on the 'camp stretch' of the Colorado River, team-building and problem solving on the low-ropes course, and the use of the showers!
